Damned for All Time???

The Republicans are rabidly pointing fingers at the Democrats and calling us the losers of this war because we feel the need to close the wallet that continually funds the demise of our soldiers. Why can't we find better ways to get along in this world besides blindly fighting a war that has no end? Why are people who oppose the war the cold hearted killers of our military? The Republicans have had a good, long run at this war and all it has fostered for them is single minded fascism as they cry out to the opposition that we will be fighting them in Dayton, Ohio if we do not fund this war. Obviously, 9-11 proved to the world that the United States is not invincible and when we sink into a fat and happy isolationism policy that we were touting on 9-10, we were ripe for the picking. That does not mean that we must fight an unrelated war in Iraq while we pretended to search for Osama in Afganastan. That does not mean that the beauty of the stars and stripes in a green zone in Baghdad is an inspiration to our ability to win the hearts and minds of a culture that we do not begin to understand, so we can push democracy down the throats of the Iraqiis who are willing to be the puppet government. Democracy? Puppet Goverment? These words do not go together. The mission of democracy is for everyone to have a voice. We are selecting which voices the Iraqiis will have to listen to. That is not democracy! Their hearts and minds are locked onto a much more threatening target. Which Muslim group will control the towns, the neighborhoods, the country after the Americans take their lofty, but inapplicable ideals back to the Western world where they belong.
Iraq wants us gone. The enemy isn't really our enemy, it is the clash of philosphy between the Shiites and the Sunnies. That is not a battle that can be won or even controlled with an intervening military force. Iraq needs to be rethought. Outside the box. No more, "Stay the course". No more open wallet policy. I want to spend MY money on a project that works. Iraq is like buying a gizmo on late night TV and finding out, in the light of day, that it will not do any of the things that was promised.
We asked our President for an accounting. We asked to be shown responsibility. Instead, he vetoed the bill because of a time limit. He vetoed cold, hard cash for the troops because he could not be contained by a time line. It was he who refused to bend in the direction of compromise and creative options. His conscious will not allow embyonic stem cell research, but it will allow 18 year old stem cells to be killed in battles that generals have no plans for. This is the kind of irresponsibility that the Democrats are trying to get past and restore our country to embark on a mission we can work together to accomplish.
